2013 Partner: San Francisco, CA[BETA]
“The City of San Francisco is proud to have Code for America in our innovation ecosystem. We have partnered with Code for America on many of their initiatives, and we are very excited to work with them to bring passionate web developers, designers, and entrepreneurs here to help make San Francisco more open and efficient.” — Mayor Ed Lee
Many high need individuals experience substantial access barriers in receiving human service benefits despite their eligibility. Complicated assignment and enrollment systems result in a portion of benefits going unused (such as available nightly shelter beds). Code for America will work to create new technology solutions to streamline enrollment in shelter, food, and public healthcare benefits, contributing to the culture of innovation currently being cultivated by the Mayor’s office in San Francisco where government and citizens work together to create new solutions to civic problems.
Goal: increased enrollment in human services benefits programs
Key Outcomes:
- Improved citizen awareness of benefits eligibility
- Increased citizen engagement and participation in benefit programs
- Streamlined technology tools to track benefit usage
Lead Agency: San Francisco Department of Human Services
