Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) policy—even when it’s meant to increase access—is often confusing for applicants. Complex eligibility rules often result in hard-to-answer questions within benefits applications. The complexity of these questions can result in more inaccuracies while feeling intrusive and adding to applicant anxiety. 

For example, many clients who prefer a language other than English drop off at the resource question aiming to get them faster service. This administrative burden is shared by county workers, who must screen all applicants for expedited service and must resolve inaccurate answers from misunderstood questions. GetCalFresh, our SNAP application assister, is designed to reduce friction in service delivery and increase access to SNAP.
