In the midst of winter snowstorms, buried hydrants cause dangerous delays in the ability of fire fighters to respond to fire emergencies. To check and clear thousands of hydrants across the city of Boston, would be a timely, costly, and burdensome process. Adopt-a-Hydrant lets governments turn to the community. This map-based web app allows individuals, small businesses, and community organizations to volunteer to be responsible for shoveling out specific hydrants.

This app in being reused in three other cities: Chicago, Honolulu, and Buenos Aires, for various purposes.

What We Need Now

This project needs the support and contributions from various skill types:

Front-end Developer: The application needs a clean, simple interface to see the status of all hydrants for the Fire Department officials.

UI Designer: There is an opportunity to leverage game mechanics to incentivize citizens to check on their hydrants using notifications, points, etc.
