Over the past decade large cities have implemented 311 systems to handle non-emergency service requests such as fixing a pothole. The Open311 API allows web applications to seamlessly interact with 311 systems across the nation. The Open311 Dashboard aims to take the deluge of 311 data and translate it into a clean and interactive dashboard. It helps track response times, identify service request trends, and give city officials data about the efficiency of various city services.

What We Need Now

This project needs the support and contributions from various skill types:

User Experience Researchers: We're especially interested in finding out what city officials and citizens want out of a 311 dashboard.

Front-end Developers: The project will rely heavily on JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We are focused on creating individualized widgets. The application will be extremely modular.

Back-end Developer: Set up a Rails backend on Heroku. Set up a CouchDB instance.

Data Visualization Experts: Help us find new and interesting ways to display 311 data.
