Code for America’s Commitment to Negotiating a New Union Agreement
Code for America has returned to the bargaining table with CfA Workers United to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement—one that reflects the urgency of this moment and positions us to rise to meet it.
The reality is stark: Our mission at its core is to modernize benefits programs, which are under unprecedented attack. Our government partners are being asked to do more with far less. Families with low incomes are struggling more than ever to meet basic needs. Across the nonprofit sector, organizations are making difficult decisions to stay viable and effective.
This is precisely the moment Code for America was built for—and it’s calling us to step up in every way. That means finding the right balance: maintaining our commitment to competitive benefits; being a great place to work; and ensuring we have the strength, flexibility, and sustainability to show up for the millions of people who need us now more than ever.
Through these negotiations, we’re working in good faith to reach an agreement that does both—supports our team and positions us to deliver on a mission that has never been more critical. As it stands, our current proposal remains best-in-class in the civic tech sector. We look forward to sharing the specifics as negotiations move forward.
We’ve reached tens of millions of people through programs that help families access food assistance, health care, and other essential services. The need for this work isn’t diminishing—it’s growing. And we’re committed to being here for the long haul.
As we’ve done throughout our history, we’ll figure this out together. Because the stakes are too high, and the need too great, to do anything less.
