Marc Perlman (he/him)

  • Principal Software Engineer, Code for America

Marc (he/him) is a software engineer with over 20 years experience building scalable, reliable, and enjoyable solutions across a wide range of industries, technologies, and business models. He first learned to program as a child on the family Apple IIe, and he never really looked back. Prior to joining Code for America, he was using his engineering skills to benefit independent artists and labels at Bandcamp– most notably helping to build and deliver both Bandcamp’s Live streaming platform and Listening Party product. He enjoys solving interesting problems, and helping less experienced engineers develop those problem solving skills.

When he’s not doing software things, Marc can be found vacuuming up hair from his two loveable dogs (Admiral “Adi” Ackbar, a chihuahua/pug mix, and Steve, a cattledog/chihuahua mix). He’s also a baseball addict; In the spring, he can be found at University of Texas’ baseball games rooting on the Longhorns as a long-time season ticket holder. By the summer and fall, he can be found questioning the meaning of life as a die-hard New York Mets fan. When there’s no baseball to be found, Marc is often watching live music… or performing it himself, as he has been the bassist in an independent rock band almost as long as he’s been a software engineer.

Not one to toot his own horn, Marc likes to note that he was recognized as Newsday’s Junior Paper Carrier of the Year in 1991.
