People with low incomes can now use Code for America’s free virtual tax filing assistance tool

GetYourRefund is now open and providing help to people seeking to file their tax returns. GetYourRefund is Code for America’s free virtual tax filing service, supported by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. Department of Treasury, and the White House. It is designed to help individuals and families from low income households access high quality and trusted tax filing assistance from home.

Most people can file for multiple years, including if they missed filing in 2019, 2020, or 2021, in addition to their current 2022 taxes. GetYourRefund can help individuals and families claim critical eligible benefits delivered through the tax system, such as the Child Tax Credit, Stimulus Payments, and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Filing assistance is available in both English and Spanish.

Flexible cash, like that distributed through refundable tax credits, is proven to empower people toward financial stability. This type of support helps people provide for basic needs, keep living wage jobs, and handle unforeseen emergencies.

To date, GetYourRefund has helped 121,000 people successfully file their taxes, with an estimated 24% of them being first time filers. To find out more about how to simply and easily file taxes for free, visit GetYourRefund.org.
