Jonathan Barnes

Jonathan is the Senior Organizer with Tax Benefits team at Code for America. Having directed the volunteer program of a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance organization in Philadelphia for over 6 years, he brings extensive knowledge and experience of the VITA universe and how to sustainably recruit and retain the incredible people that serve taxpayers each year. Jonathan approaches volunteer management in the same way as community organizing, whereby success is measured by the strength of the relationships developed and the qualitative results achieved.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Service, Leadership & Management from the School for International Training, but feels spiritual materialism is his north star. Jonathan lives with his partner and children in Philadelphia and enjoys cooking and baking, slashing like a madman to Beat Saber and reading science fiction.
