CodeforAmerica.org is a nonprofit website run by Code for America Labs, Inc. (“Code for America”, “we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information on our websites (Sites), including the Code for America website (“codeforamerica.org”), the Code for America Summit website (“the Summit Site”), and the Clear My Record website. By submitting your personal information on our websites, you agree to the terms in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use our websites.

  • We collect information from you when you visit and take actions on our website. We use this information to provide the services you’ve requested.
  • We use cookies (such as those stored by Google Analytics) to provide a better experience and improve our website.
  • We will not knowingly disclose or sell your personal information to any third party, except as provided in this privacy policy.
  • Protecting your personal information is extremely important to us and we take all reasonable measures to do so.

The personal information we collect

Visiting our Sites

  • We automatically collect and store data about your visit to codeforamerica.org:
    • Domain from which you access the Internet
    • Operating system on your computer and information about the browser you used when visiting the site
    • Date and time of your visit
    • Pages you visited
    • Address of the website that connects you to the Site (such as google.com or bing.com)
  • None of the information we collect about you when you visit our Sites is personally identifiable.
  • We use this information to understand how our Sites are used, to improve the websites, and to monitor usage for security purposes.
  • We will not collect personal information from you without your knowledge and consent, except in a few limited circumstances as described in this policy.

Signing up to our mailing list

  • We use HubSpot to manage our mailing list.
  • When you sign up to our mailing list using our sign-up form, your personal data will be transferred to HubSpot and processed by HubSpot.
  • The personal data we collect when you sign up to our mailing list includes:
    • Your name
    • Your email address
    • Domain from which you access the Internet
    • IP address
    • Operating system on your computer and information about the browser you used when visiting the site
    • Date and time when you submit the form
    • Address of the page on our website, or the third-party website that connected you to sign-up form
  • We use the collected email addresses of our mailing list subscribers to send emails with marketing messages, news related to our work, information about career opportunities, and resources.
  • We use the personal data we collect to understand how people sign up to our mailing list and to improve the experience of signing up to our mailing list.
  • We will not email you unless you consent to email communication on the Site.
  • Every automated email will include a link to manage your preferences or unsubscribe. You can also unsubscribe from our email list here

Submitting forms on our Sites

  • We use a combination of self-hosted and third-party services to handle forms submissions on our Sites, including WordPress, Gravity Forms, HubSpot, Google Forms, and Airtable.
  • When you submit a form on our Site, your personal information and any other information you submit is stored securely on WordPress and by our third-party service providers.
  • After you submit a form, your information is shared with relevant staff members based on the information you submit.
  • The personal data we collect when you submit a form includes:
    • Your name
    • Your email address
    • Your contact reason
    • Your message
    • IP address
    • Date and time when you submit the form
  • We will use the information you submit to respond to your inquiry or provide you with access to requested resources or services.

Applying for a job with Code for America

  • If you decide that you wish to apply for a job with us, you may submit your contact information, demographic information, and your resume online. We will also collect the information you choose to provide in your application and on your resume, such as your education and employment experience. We use this information to process your job application.

Donating to Code for America from our Sites

  • When you make donations to Code for America through our Sites, your personal information is transferred to, and processed by, DonorBox.
  • DonorBox processes donation transactions using Stripe, PayPal and Plaid as payment processors. The credit card or bank account information you supply is transmitted securely to the relevant payment processors.
  • The personal data we collect when you make an online donation includes:
    • Your name
    • Your address
    • Your email address
    • Domain from which you access the Internet
    • IP address
    • Operating system on your computer and information about the browser you used when visiting the site
    • Date and time when you submit the form
    • Address of the page on our website, or the third-party website that connected you to sign-up form
  • If you check the ‘Subscribe to our mailing list’ checkbox, we will add you to our Hubspot mailing list. Read more about how we manage our mailing list in the ‘Signing up to our mailing list’ section above.

Salesforce

  • We use Salesforce to manage ongoing relationships with our contacts and donors.
  • Salesforce is integrated with our Hubspot list, such that when you sign up for our mailing list, we also add your information to Salesforce.
  • To the extent you provide information when signing up for our mailing list or making a donation, the information we maintain in Salesforce may include:
    • Your name
    • Your email address
    • Your physical address
    • Your phone number
    • Your program, brigade, and job board interests
    • Your donation history
    • Records of any direct communication we’ve had with you
  • If you choose to unsubscribe from our email list, that will also be reflected in our Salesforce system.

Google Analytics

  • We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site and to gather aggregate performance metrics.
  • We’ve set up Google Analytics so that it doesn’t collect your full IP address.
  • We don’t collect any personally identifiable information using Google Analytics, and we do not combine the information collected through Google Analytics with any personally identifiable information.
  • Google Analytics places a cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user. This cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy.

Clear My Record

  • We automatically collect and store data about your visit to the Clear My Record website and application
    • Domain from which you access the Internet
    • Operating system on your computer and information about the browser you used when visiting the site
    • Date and time of your visit
    • Pages you visited
    • Address of the website that connects you to the Site (such as google.com or bing.com)
  • When you register to use our application, we ask you for:
    • Your name
    • Your phone number
    • Your county
    • Your county agency
    • Your job title

  • Cookies are small text files that websites place on the computers and mobile devices of people who visit those websites. Pixel tags (also called web beacons) are small blocks of code placed on websites and emails.

The official registration and financial information of Code for America Labs? may be obtained from the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office by calling 1-888-236-6167. Registration by the Secretary of State does not imply endorsement by the Secretary of State.

New Jersey

Information filed with the Attorney General concerning this charitable solicitation and the percentage of contributions received by the charity during the last reporting period that were dedicated to the charitable purpose may be obtained from the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey by calling 973-504-6215 and is available on the internet at https://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/charities/Pages/default.aspx. Registration with the attorney general does not imply endorsement.

New York

North Carolina

Financial information about Code for America Labs and a copy of its license are available from the State Solicitation Licensing Branch at 1-888-830-4989 (within North Carolina) or (919) 807-2214 (outside of North Carolina). The license is not an endorsement by the State.

Pennsylvania

The official registration and financial information of Code for America Labs may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling toll-free, within Pennsylvania, 1-800-732-0999. Registration does not imply endorsement.

Virginia

A financial statement is available from the State Office of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, P.O. Box 1163, Richmond, VA 23218.

Washington

West Virginia

Merger, sale, or other asset transfers

  • We may transfer your information to service providers, advisors, potential transactional partners, or other third parties in connection with the consideration, negotiation, or completion of a corporate transaction in which we are acquired by or merged with another company or we sell, liquidate, or transfer all or a portion of our assets. The use of your information following any of these events will be governed by the provisions of this Privacy Policy in effect at the time the applicable information was collected.

Consent

  • We may also disclose information from you or about you or your devices with your permission.

Children’s privacy

  • We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under 13 years of age, and no part of our Site is directed to children.

Right to be forgotten and rectification
