The Code for America Network
Code for America’s vision extends beyond one organization. Our mission to inspire change is part of a Network of thousands of people who are dedicated to putting technology to work for the benefit of our local communities. We’re community organizers, technologists, designers, academic researchers, data journalists, activists, policy experts, web developers, and passionate, curious people who want to make life better and more equitable for all.
Through our local volunteer Brigade program and the Community Fellowship, our Network partners with community groups and local governments to create, support, and serve the public good through technology. The Network spans the United States, with over 80 different Brigade chapters and an active Community Fellows paired with several local governments each year. Our projects range from making it easier for Massachusetts residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine, to taking on affordable housing in Miami, to partnering with Vermont Legal Aid to expand record expungement, to sharing public data on power outages in Kentucky, to providing renters’ assistance amid eviction moratoriums in Nebraska, to launching land acknowledgement projects in Alaska, to aiding survivors of wildfires in the West with digital tools, and so much more.
On a national level, the power of people and technology delivers change at scale. We organize to get flexible cash to thousands of families. We come together by the thousands for National Day of Civic Hacking. And each year, Code for America’s Network selects priority action areas that help focus volunteers’ response to timely issues and act with intention when working in communities.
While our work and our community is diverse, we’re united by common values. We believe in listening before building, including those who have been excluded, and rolling up our sleeves to deliver real solutions for partners and our communities.
At Code for America, success means building a movement. We’re looking for people to join us and support this work. Communities today are facing unprecedented challenges—from natural disasters and housing crises, to food insecurity and endangered voting rights. Only together can we do our part to change that—meeting community needs, creating systems change and improving people’s lives.
